Shaneen and her family live out west of Ipswich at Peaks Crossing. Set amid the open plains with a mountain backdrop, it's always a pleasure to shoot out here. Add to the fact that in their back yard they have the old family tractor parked under an old fig tree and you have the setting for a beautiful family portrait. After seeing these images Shaneen has vowed never to sit in a studio again. With a studio like she has at her disposal.....why would you??

Just before Christmas Kristie and Miles got in touch with me to shoot some portraits of little Indeana, born on the 14th December , weighing in at 7 pounds 9.5 ounces and 50cm tall. Only 1 week out of hospital this beautiful creation was still not used to her strange new world and insisted on staying wrapped up snug in her blanket. Welcome to life Indeana. Justin & Danni - a commitment ceremony

Justin and Danni were having their commitment ceremony amid a select number of family and friends and asked me to get some shots prior to the event. The venue of choice was the beautiful Japanese gardens in the heart of Toowoomba where the jacarandas had just dropped their flowers to cover the green grass in beautiful contrast. David and Danni were married in St Pauls on the 15th of October. The 2 weeks leading up to the wedding were wet but luckily for us the day of the wedding dawned nice and clear. With hair and make up out of the way in record time, Danni was spot on time for her wedding. In front of family and friends and a number of their students, love, laughter and vows were exchanged. During this time however the weather had taken a serious turn for the worse and by the time we were ready to shoot the formals it was pelting down so we finished off the night in the reception room of the Metro hotel where we got some nice cosy shots. ......is where Ben and Tara came from to celebrate their wedding day with a select number of family and friends. The venue of choice was the Ipswich Club, a beautiful restored Queenslander in the heart of Ipswich. This bubbly fun loving couple had a wedding with a difference with her entry to the Star Wars theme all the way through to their quirky but funny vows. Seeing as how they are not quiet local, their slideshow collection was sent through to them. The next day I received this "We received the dvd today.

It was awesome. You did a great job – thanks heaps!!". Enough said. Tara & Ben, it was definitely different, but it was a blast. Thank you for being so easy to work with and for your radiance.

The 3rd of September saw me back at my favourite wedding venue..........Spicers Hidden Vale, this time for the wedding of Nathan and Katrina. This however was a wedding with a bit of a twist as included in the wedding was the naming ceremony for their beautiful baby daughter, sealed with the release of balloons. Everything went without a hitch, even the wind died down for the balloons, and once the family congratulations were done and the newly wed couple had 10 minutes to recover, we used the beautiful surrounds of Spicers to get some great formal shots. Matt and Dearne were well prepared for their wedding having booked me well over a year in advance. Time flies however and before we knew it we were ready for their big day. The bride arrived in style at the Presbyterian church in the heart of Ipswich in a beautiful early model Mercedes. Matt & Dearne vowed their love for each-other in front of family and friends in a beautiful ceremony. After a brief shower we were off to the Kholo gardens followed by a reception at Brothers. Woodlands at Marburg has a beautiful mansion set amidst the rolling hills of our western regions and it is with good reason that it's one of the venues of choice in these parts. Phil and Jennifer got married on the beach at Stradbroke Island after their preparation at the Sheraton resort on the Gold Coast.While Phil caught the high speed ferry, Jen made a grand entrance arriving by seaplane. This beautiful ceremony was carried out under heavy clouds and no sooner had the loving couple exchanged their vows and sealed it with a kiss when the heavens opened and a mad dash for cover was made. The signing was done under cover but it did clear up enough to allow us to get some beautiful sunset shots and then shooting into the night for the celebrations. In the Toowoomba hinterland at Flagstone Creek there is a quaint little place called the Barn. Set by the stream, this original barn has been transformed into a restaurant and event venue. Beautifully landscaped it was the perfect place for Jason and Megan to exchange their vows. The old fig tree was an obvious choice and in the presence of their family and friends and accompanied by Mojo and Bud, their 2 dogs, promises were made and sealed off with a kiss. When this enquiry initially came through I knew it was going to be a fun shoot. Nick & Kylie wanted a few photos of their beautiful 3 month old daughter Michaela and Gypsy the spoodle together. They say that you should never work with animals or children but thankfully this proved to be not an issue. Shooting in their beautifully renovated colonial we had bright floors, light walls and lots of natural light to work with. Rick got in contact with me a week before mothers day to organize a shoot for his partner Rebecca and their beautiful baby boy, Ryland. The venue of choice was Kholo gardens where we found a nice secluded spot backlit with the afternoon suns golden glow to capture some very precious moments of this beautiful young family. I have known Cassie for quiet a while as I first met her when I did the Stephens four generation family shoot back in February 2008. The next time I had the pleasure of her company was as a bridesmaid at her sisters wedding in January 2009 and then again at the wedding of Nathan and Jess in November 2010. On the 5th of March Shane and Stefanie exchanged their wedding vows at the grand St.Marys Church here in Ipswich and I was given the great honour of sharing in their day. Working together with the videographer we captured this beautiful occasion in both video and stills. From here it was off to the ever popular Nerima gardens for the formal shoot which we managed to wrap up just as the rain started to come down. The festivities were seen through to their finale at the Bundamba Turf club. Josh and Anna live just south of Sydney however on the 2nd of October they tied the knot on their home turf here in Queensland. The venue of choice was the Kooroomba Winery and Lavender farm west of Ipswich and although the day was overcast with intermittent showers, nothing could dampen the mood of this celebration. As is the norm I make sure that the bride and groom are the first to see their collection before displaying them to the world. As most people who live in South East Queensland will tell you..........it's been wet. It's actually been wet for the last couple of months and when Matt and Lisa got married it was no exception. I have just spent 4 weeks in beautiful and amazing Turkey on a very well deserved vacation. Time away from the computer however also means an ever increasing back log so needless to say I hit the ground running. Not only am I shooting fresh weddings but I am finalising those I did before I left. Such as this one!

Roland and Bec tied the knot at the Treasury Casino Hotel. The only thing is that only 1 or 2 people knew as it was invited as a ball gown Birthday party. Needless to say there were looks of shock and amazement that soon turned into tears of joy as this lovely couple repeated their vows.

Last Tuesday night I went down to Orleigh park at West End to watch some amazing people playing with fire. I guess they didn't listen to mum and dad too well!! Andrew and Christina visited my stand at the Minden Bridal Fair last year and honoured me with the pleasure of capturing their wedding. As most people here will tell you the weather has not been the best, in actual fact it has been wet and miserable of late and the day of the wedding proved to be no different. With a constant rain throughout the morning we resigned ourselves to a wet wedding. As it turned out though we were pleasantly mistaken as by the time we got to the chapel the rain had stopped. Apart from a little shower as we exited the ceremony, the rain held off enough for us to make the most of our surroundings to get some very special shots. Little Matthew gets christened

On the 19th of July little Matthew was christened at St.Anthony's Catholic Church in Toowoomba witnessed by his family and freinds. His big brother Nicholas also looked on making sure that all went well. The ceremony was short and sweet but the memories will be timeless.

Last time I visited Toowoomba was to take some family portraits for Adella and Ricky but half way through our shoot the heavens opened and we had to make a mad dash for cover. Come boxing day I ventured west to Toowoomba for a family shoot with Ricky and Adella, their 3 beautiful daughters and their 7 grandchildren. The Japanese gardens was the locale of choice and after a bit of scouting around I found this little gem of a stream tucked away under the trees. It provided the perfect spot for a lovely photo of a wonderful family.

Mid last year Amanda called me to organise to get a whole family portrait done. However there was a small catch. The members of the family were not only spread around Australia but also around the globe so trying to organise a date that suited everyone was going to be a task to be reckoned with. After a lot of effort we decided on the afternoon of the 19th December and the shoot was to take place on the open plains of Minden Retreat. The weather leading up to the day of the shoot was beautiful but as these things go, the day of the shoot was overcast and the clouds were heavy with rain and then 30 minutes before the family arrived the heavens opened up. Not to be discouraged however we waited it out and then set about getting some great memories. Thanks Amanda for letting me share a couple of hours with your wonderful family

Before that however comes the Formal when , after 12 years of school, these young men and women celebrate an end to a chapter of their lives. I have had the pleasure of working with Warren and Jodie before when I took photos of their 2 beautiful boys Lachlan and Cooper and then again when we did a whole family sitting. It was after the initial shoot of the boys that Jodie asked me to do the wedding photography for her and it was with great pleasure that I accepted. The special day was 2 days after my 42nd birthday on the 12th of September in Toowoomba which is just starting to come into bloom for the festival of flowers. It's been so long since I have kept everyone up to date with the happenings around here but that's because I have been run off my feet. Definately a good thing. I will post a couple of things up but first let me tell you about the beautiful little retreat at Minden that is now starting to host weddings and receptions. Situated just west of Ipswich it is situated in the middle of the bush with it's own little jetty on a lake and quaint little chapel for those special weddings. About a month ago Larissa from Fantaysia Celebrations and Special Events http://fantaysia.com.au/main/page_welcome.html held the annual Spring bridal fair which I had the pleasure of attending. It was a hot day but thankfully Larissa kept the refreshments coming and I had a full on day meeting prospective brides to be (in search of a wedding photographer, brisbane ... I hoped). Not a bad way to spend a sunday if you ask me!!

As part of their package they were entitled to a complimentary engagement shoot which they took full advantage of at Denmark Hill in the heart of Ipswich. We shot for about 90 minutes as I got them used to the camera and were rewarded with some nice intimate portraits. The Oxley Highway

The Oxley highway is considered to be one of the best bike roads in Northern NSW. A few months ago a good mate asked me if I wanted to join him on a 3 day trip down that way and it wasn't hard to say yes. We left early Friday morning and had a leisurely and playful run down to Armidale where we found a hotel and settled for the night. The next day was cold and crisp but great riding weather. The Oxley was all it promised to be and more. After a whole day riding we decided it was time to head back so we got onto Thunderbolts way when we were graced with this beautiful golden light. Too hard to miss the opportunity I scanned the country looking for something that would symbolise the vast open lands when I saw this lone sapling. With 15 minutes worth of light left I quickly positioned the bikes and shot a pic of Andy and then set the camera for him to take one of me.

Sunshine Coast Wedding

On the 18th of April Paul and Lovisa came together as one in a quaint little chapel on the Sunshine Coast. Surrounded by freinds and loved ones they exchanged vows with an obvious love and adoration for eachother. It was also on this day 60 years ago that Lovisa's grandparents exchanged their own vows. It was a pleasure to shoot this double celebration.

Earlier on this year, Rstudios Photography, Mechanix Make-up and Gallery Newtown all got together to give one lucky lady a Glamour shoot. The prize included a professional make up artist, a full 1 hour photo session and 2 canvasses to hang on the wall. The lucky winner was a very excited Chantelle who laughed and smiled all the way through the shoot and really worked the Camera. On the 21st of March I had the absolute pleasure and honour of recording the wedding of Scott and Cathy . The day dawned crisp and clear with only a few clouds in the sky and a healthy breeze. The chosen venue was beautiful Lake Moogerah, providing a stunning backdrop to a beautiful occassion. From here it was off to the family property to get some more intimate shots finishing off with a blazing sunset. Well done guys.

Valentines Wedding

Mt Mee is a favourite bike road of mine that I ride on the odd weekend. This Valentines day saw me there for a different reason however. Brad and Kele were getting married at the lookout overlooking the sunshine coast with about 70 of their family and freinds along to witness the ceremony. The weather was not the best for the occassion and hasty change of plans were made for the ceremony to make sure that both Brad and Kele stayed dry. The overcast and drizzly conditions could not dampen the moment when they exchanged vows. Kele had a tear in her eye and Brad had a gleam in his as they promised themselves to eachother. On Saturday the 31st of January I was given the absolute pleasure of photographing the marriage of Sarah Stephens to Clinton Hines. My assistant Mandy and I were up at 6 getting ready for the big day ahead. We made Sarahs mums place by 8 and started recording what turned out to be a most wonderous and happy occassion for not only Sarah and Clinton but for everybody who had the pleasure of being present, ourselves included. By the time we finished transferring all files onto the pc and backing everything up it was 2.15 Sunday morning. To go into the events of the day would take too long but suffice to say that there were many laughs to be had, smiles all around and the Love of not only two people joining in marriage but also that of a close knit family and freinds. Sarah came around today and loved the images we presented. Her task now is to choose the ones she likes. Here is just a sample of the day.

Lachlan and Cooper live with mum and dad on their property out at Goondiwindi. Lachlan is 2 and never tires of chasing his Thomas the Tank engine ball around the place. Easy with a laugh and a powerball of energy as can be expected from any happy toddler. Cooper is only 4 months but he already has a beautiful smile. Obviously not as active as his older brother, his posing tended to be a little more sedate yet I am sure if you ask him it took a whole heap of energy to hold himself up for the camera. Both boys were a pleasure to work with giving mum and dad some wonderful memories to hang on the wall.

A few months ago I was contacted by the Cancer Council of Queensland and asked whether I would be interested in donating a prize for their fund raising dinner. Yesterday I was set a task that differed somewhat from the norm. Kerri had seen a picture a while ago that showed a womans back and it has stayed with her ever since. She finally decided that she wanted something similar done in Black and White. With no studio lights, the only door in the room was strategically opened to give the right amount of light. Kerri was then turned to make the most of the contrasting shadows and a sheet draped over her for a bit of interest. Here is the result.

Indigiscape is a beautiful piece of the Redlands tucked in the hinterland of Capalaba. Lush bush with a creek meandering through and the sunlight spilling through the leaves. A day at the Japanese Gardens

Today we ventured to the bushland outside of Ipswich to a paddock where Sandra's Mum grew up. Born in Corinda, she moved out to this paddock when she was three. Although nothing stands but rusty shacks and the old cattle dip, she remembers her younger years here and life as it was back then on the farm. Even her dad's old Tractor, a little beaten up but still running, was dusted down and brought out for the photos. We covered 4 generations in a 3 hour shoot and settled back at the end of the day with a well deserved beer and a camera full of memories'

Alison and Nicko had a slight dilemma. They wanted to get some shots of her pregnancy but their house is not yet finished and their unit offered little in the way of photographic backgrounds. Luckily I have a sun room that is wall to wall windows with great light for that airy soft effect for the expecting couple.

As part of my Christmas promotion I was contacted by the Stephens family to shoot a four generation photo on the old family farm. During our conversation however Sandra let me know that she was interested in getting some portraits done for herself. Instead of rushing everything and trying to squeeze it all in on the one day we made a separate booking for the following Tuesday at 6am. The day dawned with beautiful light and we set to work on their Aussie outback property. These are a few of the resulting images. The rest have been given to Sandra and I am very pleased to say that with a tear in her eye........ she loved them. Unfortunately for us the Original shoot got washed out by a torrential downpour which was disappointing as it was extremely difficult to nail down a time when all the family members could come together at the one time. We have however set a tentative date for February and I look forward to shooting this wonderful family again!!

Rstudios Photography takes out first prize in Eureka Science Photography Awards

The Eureka Awards are to Australian Science what the Oscars are to the movie industry. Highly coveted and fiercely competitive. So it is with a great amount of pride that I announce that this year Rstudios equaled for first prize in the Science Photography Category with the image entitled Crystal Orb. Taken at the DPI Horticulture and Forestry Science Chemistry Laboratory, this is a crystal residue formation on a the base of a round bottom flask from a column fractionation during research into naturally occuring pesticides. There is no postprocessing trickery here, merely a single flash with a green Filter lit remotely from the bottom left of the image.

Jerry and I have known eachother for 20 years and as one would expect, over time have become very, very close. He was best man at my wedding as I was at his and we have shared a lot of memories. A number of years ago, Jerry, Lyndal and their young family ventured up north in search of a better life. Even though we rarely see each other now, we still stay in touch at least once a fortnight by phone.

A few weeks ago Jerry said he was coming down for a relatives wedding and having seen my past work asked me to do a portrait shoot. It was with honour that I accepted. I am proud to present the Paice family to you.

Bung is the proud owner of a Joe Rocket CBR1000. This is an original that was raced by Adam "Krusty" Ferguson to win the 2004 Australian Superbike Championship. Bung originally owned a Repsol CBR1000 but Jane decided she liked this one so much more that she actually bought it for him. It came as no surprise to me then that Bung wanted photos of his two favourite girls together. So after a bit of ringing around, the lovely People at Willowbank raceway allowed us to do the shoot on the dragstrip. Some of the many pics taken...........

A few weeks ago Chris asked me to take some photos of his pride and joys. A beautiful Ford XR6 ute and a custom painted Honda Blackbird CBR1100XX. The day of the shoot was clear skies and mid afternoon we set off in search of a nice straight road with an East-West aspect to make the most of the setting sun. After 30 minutes of driving we found it. Not too many trees and very little traffic. What ensued was about 1 hour of photo shoot giving us these gems of cutting edge technology at it's finest!!

Matt and Kyrle have 3 beautiful children; 2 boys, Cooper and Brady and their baby daughter Ellara. I was the lucky one who was asked to do their family shoot and the 2 hours that ensued were funfilled and enjoyable for everyone - myself included. Cooper is a natural star with a ready smile and not at all shy to pose for the camera, willing to do whatever I asked with never a complaint. Brady on the other hand had me in stitches when I first asked him to smile for me as the cheeks spread into a huge grimace showing a mouthful of teeth. After regaining my composure we played a little game and I managed to get him to show me his natural smile, and what a beauty it was too. Ellara was another story. Only a baby, we had to shoot around her, but with a lot of help from mum and dad we manged to get what we wanted. Then it was off to do a few solos for Matt and Kyrle, when wouldn't you know it, the rain started to come down. Not to be phased however we soldiered on and wrapped up the shoot when we started to lose the light, two and a half hours after we started.

Simon & Sandra's Shoot

Late last month I had the pleasure of doing a shoot for Simon, Sandra and their 5 teenage kids. I arrived on site an hour early as I normally do, just to see what the light was doing and to sort out how and where the shoot would proceed. The weather was great and the sun was slowly starting to sink in the sky giving the beautiful light that all portrait photographers pray for. At 3pm on the dot, the stars of the show turn up and thus began the daunting task of remembering who was who amoungst the kids. On Sandra's side we have Quentin, Blake and Cody, while Simon has Jamie and Emily. Remembering names on short notice has never been my forte but with a lot of finger pointing I managed to organise everybody how I wanted them for the next two hours. Here are some of the results of the day.
